A few case reports and prospective and cross-sectional investigations have suggested the relationship between khat chewing and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). (1) For example, there was a clinical account of a case of a diabetic patient who is a khat chewer who developed recurrent episodes of DKA, which was ascribed to the altered metabolism due to khat use. This was evidenced by improving the patient’s clinical condition after stopping khat use and, therefore, strongly linking khat chewing to DKA. We are reporting an unusual DKA occurrence in a patient with type 2 diabetes precipitated by khat chewing.
