Dear colleagues,
We proudly would like to inform you that starting from this issue, there would be some changes in the journal. As you can see, we started a new cover, which we thought would be more dynamic and artistic.
Furthermore, to support the effort of better management in sepsis, we add a new section called SURVIVING SEPSIS CAMPAIGN SECTION. We are grateful that Prof. Philip Dellinger is willing to be the Editor for this new section.
In this issue, you would also find the editorial from Prof. Peter Tugwell on promoting academic medicine. You will read that this project has some great goals, and is being undertaken worldwide. We challenge our readers to join this exciting enterprise. You may contact its project manager as stated in the editorial.
In the next two consecutive issues we will publish several papers which we selected from the 10th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, which was recently organized last February in Mumbai, India.
As an international journal, and especially the official journal of several national societies throughout The Western Pacific region, we also declare that we are endorsing the WAME Policy Statement on Geopolitical Intrusion on Editorial Decisions. The policy statement is as follow: “Decisions to edit and publish manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals should be based on characteristics of the manuscripts themselves and how they relate to the journal’s purposes and readers. Among these characteristics are importance of the topic, originality, scientific strength, clarity and completeness of written expression, and potential interest to readers. Editors should also take into account whether studies are ethical and whether their publication might cause harm to readers or to the public interest. Editorial decisions should not be affected by the origins or the manuscript, including the nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, or religion of the authors. Decisions to edit and publish should not be determined by the policies of governments or other agencies outside of the journal itself. Editors should defend this principle, as they do other principles of sound editorial practice, and enlist their colleagues’ support in this effort if necessary.”
One thing you should not pass by is that starting from May 2004 we use a new system, called Editorial Manager, to make an author easily submit his/her manuscript online. By this, you simply login to the system as an author, and you will find then some instructions on your screen. The system would also help the reviewing and editing processes faster and practical.
